Would a mod be possible in Fallout New Vegas that has your companions explore on their own?

I am wondering if a mod could be made that lets you tell your companions to go out on their own and explore locations.This would let you get new places on your map seen so you could instant travel to them.Maybe to keep it from being overpowered they would travel slowly and there would be a chance for them to die.Would a mod be possible in Fallout New Vegas that has your companions explore on their own?
I believe the mod would be possible to make that out for the game...
